Livingstone College is starting 2025 with a $3 million donation from an anonymous donor, giving the private Christian HBCU in Salisbury, North Carolina, a strong financial boost. The gift continues a legacy of support from the same donor, who has been instrumental in the college’s recent growth.
President Dr. Anthony J. Davis delivered the exciting news during a faculty meeting. “Over the vacation, over the paid time off, I received notification that Livingstone College will kick off this academic year with another anonymous gift from our anonymous donor to the tune of $3 million,” he announced.
Dr. Davis credited the faculty and staff for creating the kind of environment that attracts significant philanthropic support. “This happens because all of you commit to this miracle approach,” he said. “Your hard work makes us [Livingstone] the fastest-growing HBCU in North Carolina.”
The institution will use the $3 million to renovate key areas of campus, including residence halls and cafeteria services. These updates aim to improve the student experience and support the college’s growing enrollment.
This donation builds on an impressive $23 million in contributions from the same donor last year, which included a landmark $10 million gift in July 2024.
Livingstone has experienced a 13% enrollment increase, solidifying its reputation as one of North Carolina’s leading private HBCUs. However, the college remains mindful of its capacity. “We could not function above 1,200 students right now, physically on campus,” Dr. Davis explained. “Right now, we’re at 941. We’re almost at capacity.”
Livingstone’s progress has captured attention beyond Salisbury. Dr. Davis highlighted how these donations elevate the college’s profile, saying, “The world wants to know, ‘Wait a minute, Livingstone? They’re getting philanthropic contributions like Morehouse and Spelman.’ We are. It’s because of the work you’re doing.”
With this $3 million donation, Livingstone College is entering 2025 on a high note. The funds will drive campus improvements and position the college for even greater achievements. Livingstone’s story shows how dedication and community can turn vision into success.
